We don’t see mistakes as failures - we see them as signals

At Makerble, we believe that mistakes aren’t something to be hidden or swept under the carpet - they’re a natural part of learning, especially in a fast-paced, mission-driven team. That’s why our culture is designed to be curious, not critical.

When a mistake happens - and it will - our first instinct isn’t to assign blame. It’s to ask why. Not to catch you out, but to understand what went wrong so we can all do better next time. That curiosity helps us improve our systems, support each other better, and create a working environment where people feel safe to grow.

Sometimes, the root cause of a mistake is a lack of clarity - maybe the instructions weren’t clear enough. Sometimes, it’s pressure - real or perceived - that caused you to rush. And sometimes, it’s just human error. Whatever the reason, we trust that if we’ve hired you, you’re smart and capable. So if something went wrong, we want to understand why it happened - not just so you can do better, but so we as a company can too.

That’s why we ask everyone at Makerble, whenever a mistake happens, to do three things:

  1. Own it. Let someone know as soon as you spot the issue.
  2. Explain it. Share why you think it happened - honestly and openly.
  3. Reflect and suggest. Offer two recommendations:
    • What you’ll do differently in future.
    • What we as a company could do differently to help others avoid the same mistake.

*Q2. Date the activity actually happened

*Q3. Your name (this will be attached to a person's response when the survey is completed anonymously)

*Q4. What was the mistake you made? (Text)

*Q5. What problems did the mistake cause? (Text)

*Q6. On reflection, why did you make that mistake? (Text)

*Q7. Reason for the mistake (single choice)

The instructions you were provided with were not clear enough You were rushing and therefore made a 'silly' mistake that if you would not have made if you were taking your time You made the wrong call It's something else

*Q9. What can you personally do differently in the future to ensure you don't make the same mistake again? (Text)

*Q10. What could we as a company do differently to help others avoid making this same mistake. (Text)
